Argoed Farm
Gate Road, Froncysyllte, Llangollen, LL20 7RH

ARGOED FARM lies peacefully in the Vale of Llangollen at the foot of Fron Mountain between Froncysyllte and Trevor. Located on Offas Dyke Path at Gate Road, the farmhouse enjoys delightful quiet space between Telfords famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and the River Dee.

Although a traditional Welsh farmhouse, Argoed is no longer a working farm, however, Anthea breeds rare Asian chickens - friends of the family cats whilst Alan tends the garden and the flowering baskets. The history of the farmhouse dates back before 1868 when it was a small keepers cottage attached to the Argoed Estate. About three miles from town, the farmhouse is circled by lush vegetation and trees overlooking the aqueduct; a retreat from noise and bustle. The area is largely undiscovered even though Froncysyllte basin is the entrance to one of the wonders of Wales.

Dinner is served at the farmhouse with prior notice. Fresh foods and home-cooking are the norm. Meals are served in the dining/sitting room which has a beamed ceiling, inglenook fireplace and TV. Bed and Breakfast guests are welcomed into the conservatory or on the courtyard under the shade of the cherry tree where afternoon tea is served.

There are many reasons to visit Argoed Farm and the surrounding area. Here are a few ideas:
  • It is ideally situated for walking (located on Offas's Dyke), cycling, bird watching, fishing, golfing, canoeing, boating and touring.
  • It is within 10 minutes drive of the Leisure Centre which offers ball sports, tennis, squash, badminton and the swimming pool with a wave machine. There is a newly equipped gym and sauna, steam room and sun-bed facilities.

  • The town of Llangollen offers numerous activities from galleries, the railway and trains, the Dr. Who museum, the Victorian school room and museum and many more places of interest like the Horse-shoe pass and falls, Plas Newydd, the home of the two old ladies of Llangollen as well as the Castle.
